OPEN INVITATION TO ALL AMA VIC ENDURO SUBSIDIARY AND PROMOTING CLUBS

To all valued Victorian AMA subsidiary and promoting clubs,

We have been approached by numerous clubs who have shown interest in being a part of a joint enduro series and thought we would send an open invitation to see how many clubs would be keen to participate. We envisage a 6-8 round (3-4 weekend) series with each club hosting a weekend each. The weekend could cover both cross country (GNCC style) and/or a sprint format, which will of course be property dependant.

We would like to see a uniformed approach to the series with things like entries, timing and classes etc and even down to the possibility of attracting sponsors and offering prize money for the pro classes. The benefits of an AMA club backed series is that ultimately the club who does all the hard work will be rewarded for the efforts of promoting the round as well as the fact we believe we can help co-ordinate a high level event to the racer and attract more juniors to the sport at a cost effective level.

If you are interested could you please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will look to setup a zoom/online meeting with all interested parties. If you could please have your response to us no later than COB Friday 21st of January would be appreciated.

PEOPLE WITH A PASSION FOR MOTORCYCLE SPORT NEEDED FOR THE BOARD OF AMA VIC

The Association of Motorcycle and Automobile Clubs has already moved into its next stage of growth with the formation of the Australian Motorcycle Association (AMA) state bodies in WA and TAS.

We now need a minimum of 3 x AMA Clubs members to make up the AMA VIC Board.

An AMA state body is not a governing body, but rather an entity that provides a system of support to local AMA subsidiary and promoting clubs.

The role of the Board and the functions of an AMA State body are to:

Attract state funding and represent the AMA and motorcycle sport at the state level;

Help local AMA subsidiary and promoting clubs with the coordination of calendar dates for their activities and the promotion of those activities;

Help local AMA subsidiary and promoting clubs attract partners, sponsors and advertisers to support the clubs in their efforts to promote their local activities;

Promote and encourage AMA Clubs members to become volunteer competition commissioners, which work to better amateur competition events promoted by the AMA;

Work with competition commissioners to consider, disseminate, amend, interpret and assist in the enforcement of both technical and operational rules for AMA amateur competition events;

To become a board member of AMA VIC, the person must be a person of good standing in the Australian motorcycling community.

Please note: If you are a person that is not in good standing or you are a representative of another organisation trying to get in a position not becoming of the role, you need not register your interest.

Only people that are motorcyclists themselves, are passionate about motorcycle sport and want to see the direction of motorcycling in this country take a different and much improved course, should register.

Candidates for the Board of AMA VIC must reside within the state of Victoria.

Board meetings are online only, so board members must be computer literate and of course have internet access and internet camera.

If you are one of those people that lives and breathes motorcycle sport and or are someone that has brought the sport of motorcycling into disrepute because of your passion, the AMA needs you!

Please register your interest in becoming an AMA VIC Board Member by emailing your name, contact details, motorcycling history/ experience, and the names and contact details of 2 x other persons which can vouch for your good standing to This email address is being protected from spambots. DO RIDERS AND VOLUNTEERS NEED TO BE VACCINATED TO ATTEND AMA CLUBS EVENTS IN QLD

The Public Health and Social Measures linked to vaccination status Direction (the Direction) which takes effect on Friday (17 December) 2021 has substantially changed obligations for COVID-19 management.

Volunteers and riders do not need to be vaccinated to attend AMA events. However, there are other obligations that you and they should be aware of to avoid penalties.

Outdoor activities

Outdoor based organisations are no longer considered a restricted business, activity or undertaking and COVID-19 density limits no longer apply to outdoor activities. Therefore, organisations are not required to comply with the COVID Checklist.

The Direction has separated outdoor activities and sports participation from other activities, resulting in both vaccinated and  unvaccinated persons being permitted to enter without providing proof of their vaccination status, subject to the event organisers ensuring that all people have checked in using the Check in App. The Direction gives an example of a relevant outdoor activity being a marathon, which we consider to be consistent with the outdoor activities AMA Clubs engages in.

If you run any events indoors (for example, Christmas parties, social events or fundraising activities) occupant density limits apply, with no more than 1 person per 2 square metres. Additionally, if you have an indoor component to outdoor activities, like a catering tent or clubhouse, the occupant density limits will apply to those areas.

Density limits and other controls

Physical distancing should be observed at all other times, where possible and although it is not mandatory, it remains best practice to continue to clean frequently touched surfaces and shared equipment.

AMA clubs can chose to place additional requirements if it considers those requirements are necessary to protect the health and safety of volunteers, visitors and participants.

Check in requirements

If it is not possible to use the Check in App (for example: there is no mobile internet data connection) the organiser must collect and keep contact information using another method, such an electronic spreadsheet/register or a paper-based form. Contact information collected a handwritten sheet of paper must then be entered into an electronic spreadsheet within 24 hours. AMA Clubs then needs to safely store the information and make it available to a public health officer, if instructed to do so.

Visitors and volunteers

Visitors and volunteers who attend a business, activity or undertaking must provide their contact information to the operator at the time of entry to the event by using the Check in App. If the Check in App cannot be used, as discussed above, they must provide their contact information in the alternative way the organiser provides.

If a visitor or volunteer is unable to provide contact information because of age, disability or language barriers in relation to the Check In App or the other method of collection, another person may provide contact information on the person’s behalf.

A visitor or volunteer is not required to provide contact information if:

  1. the visitor is younger than 16 years old and is not accompanied by a parent or adult who can provide information on their behalf; or
  2. the visitor is younger than 16 years old and is part of a group attending an activity organised by a school, sporting team or community group; or
  3. if it would present a risk to the person’s safety.

Penalties

A person to whom the Direction applies commits an offence if the person fails, without reasonable excuse, to comply with the Direction. This means that anyone who refuses or fails to provide contact information commits an offence and AMA Clubs commits an offence if it allows people to attend an event without providing their contact details or AMA Clubs does not keep a record of people who attend an event. The maximum penalty for each offence is 100 penalty units or 6 months imprisonment.

WHAT'S NEW WITH THE AMA IN 2022

Lately we've been asked the same question by members, "what's the plan for the AMA in 2022?" Well.....that's difficult to answer in a short space, but here goes:

Unlike other organisations which have been restructuring for survival, the AMA has been restructuring for improvement, including creating a whole new organisation to be the heart of the AMA group of clubs. This entity is called the Association of Motorcycle and Automobile Clubs Ltd (AMA Clubs), an ASIC registered national not for profit company, which is established for the encouragement of motor vehicle driver and rider sport and recreation.

The AMA group of clubs still includes AMA Charity, the only motorcycle focused charity in Australia dedicated to rider education and the AMA Co-operatives, where members can share in the cost of buying land for motor vehicle use and with the inclusion of the AMA Clubs, it means we can now have:

  • a national motorcycle sporting branch to oversee competitive and noncompetitive sport events, either on road or off road;
  • a national motorcyclist recreation branch to oversee events for riders of registered motorcycles, either on road or off road;
  • a national automobile sporting branch to oversee competitive and noncompetitive sport events, either on road or off road; and
  • a national motorist recreation branch to oversee events for drivers of registered automobiles, either on road or off road.

What does all this mean for you the camper, driver, rider or racer, well that's simple - more people, more support and more opportunities to get camping, driving, riding and racing.

What does this mean for anyone that has a commercial interest in a particular activity, it means yes insurance is available, yes you can put your dreams in place and yes you can do the thing that you always wanted to do.

What does this mean for anyone that has ever considered forming a national club so you can share your passion for the pastime you love the most, eg. a national 4WD association, a national SXS, ATV or PWC club, a national camping and caravanning, campervan or motorhome club? It means yes you can be a part of a national group, yes it is affordable and yes you can be provided everything you need to operate so you can just hit the ground running.

PLEASE JOIN US IN WELCOMING ARRA TO THE AMA CLUBS FAMILY

Australians for Responsible Recreational Access (ARRA) is the lobbying arm of the AMA Clubs.

The aim of ARRA is to ensure that Australians are not arbitrarily denied the right to responsibly experience and enjoy the public lands that belong to the citizens of Australia.

ARRA was formed back in 2015 when we started building the AMA, but due to the demand for a motorcycle sport insurance alternative, we unfortunately had to put ARRA on hold.

Most recently the crisis of public land closures and the need for the provision of safe single trails for registered off-road motorcycles, the timing for a national advocacy body means we can't put ARRA off any longer.

ARRA has a volunteer steering committee which provides support, guidance and oversight of the progress of its work. The members of this committee have the appropriate qualifications, experience and backing to perform such a crucial and urgent role.

We already have committee members with qualifications in environmental science, town planning, policy advice, health and safety, event management and more. But if you have qualifications and or experience that you believe would help us make a significant impact, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. An IT pro that has experience with Joomla is urgently needed.

This steering committee is called the Australian Responsible Recreation Association, which is housed under the Association of Motorcycle and Automobile Clubs to ensure committee members are appropriately insured for what they do and say.

Even though ARRA is purposed with fighting for the rights of all AMA Clubs Members, ie. vacationing families, personal watercraft and off road vehicle users (4WD, ATV, ADV, SXS, Dual Sport, etc), it can at any time direct all of its focus to a particular area, eg. The Safe Single Track Advocacy Project (SSTAP) for Australian dual sport motorcycle riders.

Claiming the current 35,000 + camping and caravanning, personal watercraft and off road vehicle members of the AMA Clubs, means ARRA can immediately provide significant input on decisions regarding land use designation, recreation opportunities, and preservation, but we need your help to become an even greater influence.

Your membership to ARRA will assist with the costs of engaging consultants such as Andrew Healy, our principal lobbyist and lobby firms such as Tread Outdoors. Forming partnerships with a key lobbying firm like Tread Outdoors means ARRA will have its own watch dog to have eyes and ears on the State and Federal Ministers who may have a direct influence over the key areas that affect our members rights.

Membership to ARRA will also automatically include Recreation Membership to the AMA Clubs, which means riders of registered off road motorcycles can form rider groups, access insurance cover for organisers and in particular access cover for land management agencies that may require insurance to permit single trail use.

A plan is already underway to get the safe SINGLE trails project up and running and we will be calling on you to help us with the required data, ie. we need to provide evidence to the Ministers that there is a genuine need for single trails as it is safer than multi use, bidirectional trails.

The ARRA website will be live soon so you can contribute and more information will follow shortly, but in the mean time if you want to know how you can help? We need you to think about any accidents or near misses you may have had while riding multi use, bidirectional trails (fire trails, logging trails, etc). Data such as this has not previously been collected and will be extremely useful to advocate for safer trails.

PLEASE JOIN US IN WELCOMING MANAR OFF ROAD PARK TO THE AMA CLUBS FAMILY

Just recently Manar Park, Australia's largest off road vehicle recreation area was yet another victim of an insurer pulling out of the Australian market and leaving a business high and dry. To make matters worse, just about every other insurer that had traditionally provided similar cover for the parks activities also pulled out of Australia, which left the owners of Manar Park thinking there was no choice but to shut up shop.

Fortunately park management was referred to the AMA Clubs to see if we could help. Even though it did take some time, the solution we presented to the AMA Clubs insurer was finally accepted and cover was agreed. What this means is, the Manar Park property is now leased by a not for profit Branch of the AMA Clubs, which permits social, education, sport and recreation activities for camping, 4WD, SXS, ATV, dirt bikes and other associated activities.

Manar Off Road Park is back, it is still Australia's largest off road vehicle recreation area, but now it has a new and secure outlook as a not for profit facility with a new management team and the means to provide more participation opportunities for AMA Clubs Members and their guests.

AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST OFF ROAD VEHICLE RECREATION AREA COMING SOON TO THE AMA

It would come as a shock when your insurance company has covered the off road vehicle activities on your commercial park for 20+ years and upon renewal says they will no longer provide cover. And to make matters worse, just about every other insurer that has traditionally provided similar cover, has also pulled out of the market.

So what do you do apart from panic because you can no longer get insurance to cover the activities and your faced with having to lock the gate and see your business go down the S bend? You call the AMA!!

It has taken some time to get approval from the AMA's insurer as it's definitely not a traditional solution, but what you will soon see is the return of Australia's largest off road vehicle recreation area, which will be under new management and operating as a not for profit Branch of the Association of Motorcycle and Automobile Clubs.

Permitted activities at the property will once again be open to camping and caravanning, 4WD, SXS, ATV, dirt bike and other associated activities.  And yes competitive activities will also be permitted at the park!

Not long to go now for Australia's largest off road vehicle recreation area to be back, bigger and better. Need cover for your commercial park?

INVITATION TO AMA CHARTERED CLUBS TO BE A PART OF AN AMA RIDER DEVELOPMENT SERIES

The question has been asked of the Australian Motorcyclist Association (AMA), 'when will it organise a motocross series?'.

It just so happens that the AMA has been made an offer by a supporter for sponsorship, awards, etc to be granted to local AMA chartered clubs that come together and organise a tri series of events in their region for 2021.

The offer applies not just to motocross, but to trials, enduro, vintage, supermoto, mini, road and any other motorcycle discipline, anywhere in Australia.

The offer is conditional that the focus of the events is about rider development, ie. the events are not to be about racing but rather be about helping young riders, the new and inexperienced to get involved, gain knowledge and improve their riding skills.

Yes the events are to be timed as awards are to be granted to the most improved riders after each event and of course at the end of the series.

The plan is to also have one of the many AMA chartered rider coaches onsite at each event to help riders be better at riding.

To get started, simply open a line of communication with your neighbouring clubs and ask them if they would like to be apart of such a series.

If you and your neighbouring cubs can come to an agreement on dates, locations, etc then email us with the details to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we'll make it happen together.
